Synopsis by Alice Day
Maestro Bruno Walter was a legendary conductor and a major influence on the music world. Even at the age of 82, when this film, Bruno Walter: The Maestro, The Man, was produced, Walter still cut quite a figure as he rehearsed Brahms' Symphony No. 2 with the Vancouver International Festival Orchestra, a group he had never conducted before. He reveals his keen musicianship, conducting from memory, and coaxes from the orchestra the interpretation he seeks. In an interview with music critic Albert Goldberg, he discusses his work, giving some insight into his gift for directing an orchestra to its best effort.
