Synopsis
The story of former L.A. mayor Tom Bradley (1917-98), who was the son of sharecroppers and grandson of a slave. In 1973, backed by a multi-racial coalition, he was elected mayor, becoming the first African-American to hold the office. He won re-election on five occasions, serving for a total of 20 years; and also ran twice for governor. The documentary includes historical footage and photos; and remarks from colleagues, family members, historians and journalists.
