Synopsis by Elizabeth Smith
Viewers are introduced to one of 150 dog breeds during each episode of this Discovery Channel series. Veterinarians, owners, trainers, and breeders share helpful information about each dog's temperament and habits so that current and future owners can take better care of these animals. Everyday family pets and more exotic breeds are featured. This episode features the dachshund. As the program indicates, the German word "dachs" means "badger." Long ago, dachshunds were bred so they could hunt badgers, dig them out from their underground hideouts, and even go in after them when necessary. The three varieties of dachshunds include the wire-haired, the long-haired, and the short-haired. These dogs make excellent house pets.
