Barbara Stanwyck in a Carole Lombard role? Well, that is what you get with Breakfast for Two, a rather stilted screwball comedy that certainly could have used Lombard's savoir faire. Not that Stanwyck falls flat on her face -- she never did -- but she just doesn't strike one as the carefree type. The result is a comedy that doesn't really know which way to turn. Fortunately, the supporting cast is made up by the likes of Eric Blore, Donald Meek, and Etienne Girardot, who are always good for a chuckle or two. Interestingly, the quintessential Carole Lombard comedy, Nothing Sacred, premiered mere days after Breakfast for Two.
