Synopsis by Hal Erickson

This Hungarian film was based on the frothy stage musical by Tamas Emod and Rezso Torok. Margit Davks heads the cast as Borcsa, a cobbler's daughter who has a yen to visit the United States. While en route to the Promised Land by ocean liner, Borcsa experiences all manner of misadventures, some romantic in nature. Upon arriving in America, our heroine enjoys further escapades amongst the New York skyscrapers. The film's throughline consists of the strained relationship between Borcsa and her father (Gero Maly), and daddy's acceptance of his daughter's boyfriend (Imre Hamory). The most amusing aspect of the film is the writers' notion of how Americans talk and behave.
