Hong Kong filmmaker Alfred Cheung directed this minor satire set in the days prior to the country's return to China. The government of Great Britain removes the local governor (Noel Lester Rands) and replaces him with a Chinese cook named Yan Chien-fai (Law Kar-ying), who has been working in a British kitchen for years and knows nothing about running a country. Regardless of his blissful ignorance, however, Yan becomes a target for hitmen hoping to assassinate him, and much of the film deals with the misadventures of the two bodyguards assigned to protect him, Lugo (Eric Kot) and Daikan (Michael Chow). As is the case in many films about mismatched partners, Lugo and Daikan get along like oil and water, primarily because Daikan once dated Lugo's wife (Chingmy Yau). There are a few laughs to be had, but Western viewers unfamiliar with some of the specific satirical targets here are likely to be a bit confused at some of the references.
