Synopsis by Mark Deming

A man gets the belated chance to find love with a woman who has always been "just friends" in this independent romantic drama from director Oliver Cukor. Nick (Sean Matic) first met Kate (Sarah Louise Lilly) when they were both in college, and he's been infatuated with her ever since. But Nick has never sensed that she's thought of him as anything more than a close friend, and while they've stayed in touch years after leaving school and going their separate ways, his feelings for her have never changed -- and so far as he can tell, neither have hers. Ten years after graduation drew them apart, Nick gets a letter from Kate saying that she wants to get together with him, and while he isn't sure just why, he jumps at the chance to see her. Nick meets Kate on the West Coast and they set out on a road trip that takes them from Los Angeles through the Southwest to the Dakotas, and while Nick finds a new intimacy with Kate, it takes him a while to find out why she reached out to him, and if she feels real love for him. Blue Road received its world premiere at the 2009 Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose, California.
