Synopsis by Hal Erickson
One of seven Monte Blue vehicles filmed by Warner Bros. in 1927, Bitter Apples casts the reliable Blue as wealthy John Wyncotte. Hoping to get even with her faithless sweetheart, Belinda White (Myrna Loy) marries John out of spite. She makes it clear that she does not love John, and she never will. All this changes when John and Belinda are shipwrecked on a desert island, leading to a variety of predictable but amusing complications. Our hero proves beyond doubt that he's a worthy husband to the icy Belinda when he rescues her from a band of pirates. Bitter Apples represented the first true starring assignment for Myrna Loy, though she would continue appearing in minor roles until she was "rediscovered" at MGM in the early-talkie era.
