The story of Franklin Delano Roosevelt is one of courage and perseverance in the face of adversity. This program follows Roosevelt through an especially difficult time in his life, when he contracted polio. His political career -- and some said, his life -- were near an end. But the indomitable Roosevelt refused to be defeated by circumstance, and prevailed to even greater personal and political triumphs. Archival film footage shows Roosevelt as he learned to hide his disability from the curious and the naysayers. Interviews with family, friends, and colleagues give insight into the remarkable personal qualities of the man who would become President of the United States. He would then use that same powerful character to lead the nation out of the Depression and WWII.
