As one in a series of similar documentaries, this cinematic focus on Berlin in the early 20th century is an excellent compilation of newsreels, still photos, old footage, excerpts from journals and letters, and intriguing descriptions of shops, working districts, the theater, official parades, and other aspects of a growing city life. Director and writer Irmgard Von Zur Mühlen has created a fascinating 90 minutes that in its contents, reveals both the past and presages the imminent future of the complex, sprawling metropolis.
