Synopsis by Janiss Garza

Amelie Thorndike (Katherine MacDonald, famed as "the American Beauty") is a mercenary young maiden. She baldly determines to sell herself off as a wife to a wealthy man who can keep her in luxury. She lands an engagement with an old but very rich man (Winter Hall), but, of course, finds herself falling in love with the much younger, less moneyed Kenneth Laird (Roy Stewart). She doesn't tell Laird that she is engaged, but the truth nevertheless comes out, and there is a confrontation between the two men. Laird tries to forget Amelie, but he can't, and he ultimately marries her. Amelie, though, has gained a conscience somewhere along the way and insists on going out and earning her own living so that she can be worthy of Laird's devotion. Ultimately, the couple is reunited.
