In this mild drama, a group of students have been rounded up to watch clips from very old documentaries (actual clips of films made by the director Luciano Emmer in the 50s). They are rowdy and irreverent, throwing tomatoes at the screen and cutting up. When the director tries to address them, they beat him up and throw him into the harbor. Despite that, he persists and is eventually able to get their ear. He wants their help to make a film about student life. His timing is good - the summer vacation is about to begin, and many of the kids have little else to do. In the ensuing story, the decisions the students have to make about their lives become clear.
