Sharma Kidar directs this noted romantic melodrama. Not long after being cast out of his father's will, Chand (Raj Kapoor) falls for beautiful country lass Tara (Geeta Bali). After he returns to the city, promising to marry her, Tara's sister and ailing mother succumb to illness. Having nowhere else to turn, she shows up at Chand's doorstep, much to the displeasure of Rajani, the woman whom Chand is betrothed. Rajani spreads ugly rumors about the poor lass and evidentially has her cast out of Chand's household. During the wedding, Tara is forced to sit with the musicians. Soon after the wedding, Rajani falls ill and on her deathbed confesses her evil deeds to Chand. After she dies, Chand sets out to find Tara, only to learn that she too has died. This film was widely acclaimed for both its inventive camera work and for Geeta Bali's impressive acting performance.
