N.R. Acharya follows up on his directorial debut Azad with this melodrama about Beena (Leela Chitnis), the daughter of a wealthy landlord. Though she is betrothed to marry the villainous Suresh (Shah Nawaz), she is actually in love with Nirmal (Ashok Kumar), the headmaster at the rural school which the landlord funds. Suresh, along with his father Gokul, try to get rid of Nirmal's unwanted rivalry; they cajole him, blackmail him, and eventually accuse him of the murder of Gauri (P. Desai), the daughter of one of the teachers who was actually killed by Suresh. This film proved to be a huge box-office smash.
