Synopsis by Sandra Brennan
This silent cautionary tale warns against those who would blindly believe gossip as it chronicles the ruination of a young woman's marriage to an older, jealous man. The trouble begins when a handsome poet comes to visit the couple, causing neighborly tongues to wag. Unfortunately, her husband believes the malicious lies, questions the virtue of his faithful wife and challenges one of her accusers to a duel. He is mortally wounded. As he lay dying, the poet appears and tells him that the husband's lack of faith caused the girl to make the gossip true. The sad scene fades out and suddenly the poet is seen sitting at his desk busily working on his novel chronicling the ruination of a young woman by an older, jealous man.
