Synopsis by Jonathan Crow
Master filmmaker Guru Dutt makes his film debut with this sequel to the 1950 opus Afsar. Madan (Dev Anand) is a small-time hustler forced to join the gang of a shadowy gangster (K. N. Singh) -- who also owns the Star Hotel -- after his sister falls deathly ill. As the film progresses, Madan interacts with sundry dubious characters including a doctor named Rajani (Kalpana Kartik), a cop named Ramesh (K. Dhawan), and a young dancer called Leena (Geeta Bali). When the latter turns up dead, the crime is pinned on the hapless Madan. When he learns that the criminal is in fact Rajani's father, Madan enlists the help of Ramesh to free him from execution.
