Synopsis by Hal Erickson
This French documentary was the first factual feature-length treatment of the life and death of Adolf Hitler. Familiar newsreel clips of Hitler's public appearances share screen time with hitherto unseen home-movie shots of the Fuhrer and his mistress Eva Braun at Berchstadstgarten. Some of these clips show Ms. Braun in the nude, and have since curiously disappeared from the archival lexicon of the Third Reich. When first released in Paris, the film was billed as boasting "The Most Fabulous Cast Ever Assembled"! An English-language version of Autant en Emporte L'Histoire was released shortly afterward to American television.
