Synopsis by Mark Deming

A team of Hollywood hopefuls, has-beens, and also-rans struggle against time, the elements, and a sagging budget to complete a grade-B science fiction epic in this satiric comedy. It's 1959, and director Francis Gordon (Fred Ballard), who has three shooting days left over after his latest monster movie wraps ahead of schedule, quickly decides to throw together a second film that can be shot in only 72 hours. Overnight, Gordon dreams up Attack of the Bat Monsters, and now has the daunting task of keeping his dead-tired crew and puzzled cast on their toes as he tries to rush them through the picture's torturous shooting schedule, stopping occasionally to offer such wisdom as "When the monster's dead, the movie's over." Written, directed, and edited by first-time filmmaker Kelly Greene, Attack of the Bat Monsters received it's world premiere at the Dances With Films independent film festival in June 2000, where it won top honors as Best Feature Film.
