Aline Graham (Florence Reed), the naive daughter of the district attorney, secretly marries dapper Joe Hunter. Hunter is the aide to a lawyer who runs a notorious gambling den which Aline's father is trying to close down. When the den is raided, Hunter threatens to expose Aline's involvement with him, thus ruining Graham's chance to become governor. The couple, now estranged, agree to meet and discuss the matter. Hunter, however, has concealed a camera, hoping to get Aline in a compromising position so he can create more trouble. But what the camera photographs is his own death. Aline believes that she has killed him and confesses the whole affair to her father, but it turns out that Hunter died of a heart attack.
