Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka

In this warm-hearted and amusing story about the joys of unwed motherhood, a single mother living in an East Slovak village has a daughter who became pregnant after a brief fling with a soldier, now long-gone. The mother is unhappy that her own daughter might have to work as hard as she did to raise a child alone, and so she advertises in a newspaper for a husband for the daughter. Her fondest wish comes true as a most reliable and charming man responds in the affirmative. The glorious wedding day is set, and the village is all decked out to celebrate the happy occasion -- with the bride a full nine months pregnant, but no one really cares. Sad to say, the time for the wedding hour comes and goes, and the bridegroom is nowhere in sight. The mother and daughter simply accept that they were meant to share the same kind of life, when the daughter's labor pains start. As she rushes off to the hospital, the villagers keep on celebrating -- why stop now? And as it happens, everyone will have something to celebrate in the end.
