Synopsis by Alice Day

When Otto Natzler, a textile designer, met Gertrud Amon in Austria in 1933, she introduced him to the wonders of clay pottery. They came to America in 1938, combining their talents in extraordinary works that became famous all over the world for their artful shapes and luminous glazes. Viewers can see their pottery in Artists of the World: The Ceramic Art of the Natzlers, in which Gertrud demonstrates how to create an exceptionally strong pot. Otto was in charge of the glazing process, and many of his unique finishes seem to glow from within. They collaborated on works until her death in 1971.
