Synopsis by Dan Pavlides
The central Soviet region of Uzbekistan falls under government control in this melodrama that begins before World War II. With a move towards collective farming, peasants are forced to use seeds provided by an aristocratic woman. When the foreman kills a farmer -- who is secretly the father of her child -- the wealthy woman murders the foreman. The son returns during the war to find his mother is now impoverished, having generously donated a treasure chest of jewels to the war effort.
