Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter
This is the last volume in a six-part series on the wars of the 20th century. The focus is on the conflict in Vietnam. The story is told with newsreel footage taken by Britain's Pathe News. It starts with the war, when it was being waged between France and the Vietnamese Communists in the 1950s. It then moves to increasing American involvement in the region. Of particular interest is the Bay of Tonkin incident and how it was used by President Johnson to win support for the escalation of the war. Juxtaposed with graphic war footage are the increasing protests in America and other Western nations.
