The Arabs is a ten-part series created to provide an understanding of the ongoing conflicts within the Arab world by offering an honest look at the history, culture, and society influencing Arab life past and present. Arabs speak for themselves to portray a vivid picture and present keen insight into the fabric of their people. Part seven, The Arabs: The Shadow of the West, focuses on the ongoing turmoil in Palestine. Located along the Eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea, west of Jordan and south of Lebanon, Palestinians experiences a clash between Arab and Western worlds. Edward Said chronicles the long history of European participation with the Near East, from the Crusades to Napoleon's Egyptian campaign to the arrival of western entrepreneurs.
