Synopsis by Sally Barber
The Arabs is a ten-part series created to provide an understanding of the ongoing conflicts within the Arab world by offering an honest look at the history, culture, and society influencing Arab life past and present. Arabs speak for themselves to portray a vivid picture and present keen insight into the fabric of their people. Part three, The Arabs: The City Victorious?, chronicles the saga of one young man who abandons farm life in his small village to seek a better future in the city. Viewers trace his migration to Cairo, Egypt, the largest city in the Middle East, where ancient history and modern civilization fuse. Comparisons are made between the struggles of workers living in the countryside and the challenges of those living and working in modern cities. Other programs in the series are The Arabs: Family Ties, The Arabs: The Making of the Arabs, and The Arabs: The Power of the Word.
