Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
In 1948, the United Nations Relief and Works Act mandated the development of a refugee settlement for 65,000 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. The refugees came from over 116 villages, displaced by the creation of the state of Israel. By 1986, the vast majority of those living in the settlement had gone elsewhere, and the remaining residents, as this documentary shows, were convinced that Allah would grant them a return to their homes. Hence, they consider their forty-year residence at the settlement "only temporary."
