Synopsis by Steve Blackburn
Hosted by John Viehman, this video features episode 11 from the second season of the award-winning PBS television series. In this second of two installments set in New Zealand, guests Peter Hillary (son of Sir Edmund Hillary) and Backpacker Magazine Northwest editor John Harlin III join Viehman in a trek through the varied landscape of Mt. Aspiring National Park, which was designated as parkland in 1964. Since that time it has been expanded and now covers about 887,500 square acres. As Viehman and his companions demonstrate, the park encompasses a wide range of terrain, from grasslands and rivers to glaciers and mountains. Highlights of this program include information about local wildlife and plants, and some history of the indigenous Maori people.
