In this film of a traditional Finnish folktale, an abandoned baby is raised by a woodsman in a remote area. As a grown man, he is given a sealed message to deliver to a man in the city. As he is carrying this message out of the wilderness, he is fallen upon by a gang of tramps, who are actually secret allies of his. Unbeknownst to him, they replace his first message with another, and in so doing not only save his life, but set him onto the path to riches and love.
