Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter
This documentary chronicles the platonic love affair that musician Ann-Sophie Mutter has conducted with composer Beethoven over her lifetime. Separated by time and space, the two come together by the violinist's inspired playing of the master's works. Mutter discusses how her love of the composer's music shaped her life and work. The program follows Mutter on her 1998 world tour in which she performed Beethoven's violin sonatas. The program contains complete renditions by Mutter of the Violin Sonata No. 5 in F major (or the Spring Sonata) and the Violin Sonata No. 9 in A major, popularly called the Kreutzer Sonata.
