Synopsis by Nathan Southern
As one of the most offbeat musical talents in history, Ole Bull divided his efforts between virtuoso violin performances and original compositions, eking out brave excursions into unfamiliar musical territory in both areas. In the process, he not only built up a formidable amount of celebrity for himself, but accomplished the marvelously difficult task of establishing a Norwegian national identity through music; various compositions that he authored (such as El Saeterbesog) have since become an integral part of Norway's cultural heritage. This classical release finds The Norwegian Radio Orchestra and violinist Annar Follesø teaming up to interpret ten compositions by Bull, including I Ensomme Stunde, Concerto in A Major and La Verbena de San Juan. Ole Kristian Rund conducts.
