Synopsis by Alice Day
The band of monastic warriors known as the Knights Templar gained enormous power and influence between 1118 and 1260 A.D. Immune from any authority except the Pope, they took vows of poverty, and were originally formed to protect Christians traveling to the Holy Land. In Ancient Tribes: The Knights Templar, their role in the Crusades and their eventual demise at the hands of the Pope and the King of France are explained. Despite their vows, the Knights Templar amassed vast reserves of money, and were instrumental in the development of a banking system.
