Synopsis by Connor McMadden
An Scéalai Deireanach, or The Last Storyteller, is a celebratory piece on the work of Sean O hEochaidh, a Gaelic-speaking storyteller from Donegal. Throughout his long life, O hEochaidh amassed the largest collection of Gaelic myths and folklore ever compiled by one individual. Five of these stories are presented here, all of them about mortals confronting denizens of the faerie kingdom. A commentary points out how O hEochaidh rescued many folk tales from extinction by putting them into written words. Prior to this, they had been handed down orally, from generation to generation, a fading tradition that is bemoaned in this film as much as O hEochaidh is honored.
