This ten-part PBS series examines the constantly shifting social, political, and economic forces at work in South America, Central America, and the Caribbean basin. Viewers are taken behind the scenes to gain a historical perspective on the turmoil that has developed in these countries. Experts share their opinions on how leaders might better manage the unique challenges they encounter as they govern their diverse citizenry. This episode looks at the large number of former Latin American, Mexican, and Caribbean citizens currently living in the United States. Visits are made to California, Miami, and New York City. Questions are raised and addressed about what new steps might be taken to ease these people's assimilation into American society.
