Synopsis by Leslie Birdwell

Apple pie, baseball, and barbershop quartets -- is there anything more American? It conjures up images of men in straw hats, their sleeves held in place with garter belts, and their handlebar moustaches oiled and curled to perfection. This video traces the evolution of an art form that began on street corners in the late 19th century and evolved into a seamless sound fit for competition. Interviews with participants and video of performances explain why barbershop quartets have spread across the world and has earned so many devotees. This video is full of harmony and goodwill and has appeared at American film festivals.
