Synopsis by Elizabeth Smith

Wealthy Canadians have been living in style for centuries. This fact is documented in this video as A&E travels to view two mansions built in Canada in the early 20th century. Henry Pellatt's castle, named Case Loma, ranks among the most notable of all. Set on a hill, it features towers, turrets, ornate paneling, and a conservatory capped by a beautiful, domed, stained glass ceiling. Donated to the city of Toronto to settle this businessman's tax bill, Casa Loma is now open to the public. Astute viewers may recognize this stylish place as the setting for Tom Cruise's movie Cocktail. The program also features Colonel Robert Samuel McLaughlin's Parkwood Estate, built in 1916 and boasting dozens of lavishly decorated rooms. His wealth came from establishing General Motors of Canada and other business interests.
