Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter

Steam engine trains in America during the 1920's, 30's, and 40's, conjure up romantic images of days gone by. That era is caught on film in this look at the classic American steam train, through rare film footage of some of the most famous train lines in the eastern part of the United States. Lines included in the tour are the Jersey Central, the Pennsylvania, the New York Central, the Lackawana, the Delaware and Hudson, the Reading, the Baltimore & Ohio, the Wabash, and the Frisco. Of special note is the sequence on the train made famous in the Leadbelly tune, the Rock Island Line. This film is a pleasure for the train afficionado.
