Filmmakers Danielle Schlief and Carles Porta explore the internal struggle experienced by a person betrayed by their own body in this documentary profile of a young transsexual prostitute named Alondra who travels from Spain to Thailand in order to complete her remarkable gender transformation. Alondra may have been born into the body of a man, but she always had the heart of a woman. A poor immigrant living in Spain and working as a prostitute so she can save up for gender reassignment surgery, Alondra eventually gathers the funds she needs and travels to Thailand in order to undergo the her final round of operations. Later, after Alondra's gender transformation is complete, she travels to New York in order to visit the family who only knew her as Alberto. Along the way, Alondra speaks openly and honestly about her life-altering experience, laying bare her soul in a series of interviews that highlight the many tough decisions that had to be made in order for her to become a woman both mentally and physically.
