Synopsis by Hal Erickson

This Mexican musical is a remake of the popular 1936 film of the same name. South-of-the-Border film-favorite Jorge Negrete plays the leading role, a likeable ranchero in love with a pretty orphaned girl (Lilia del Valle). Negrete carries on a friendly rivalry for the girl's affections with handsome Eduardo Noriega, but there's little doubt as to the outcome of this romantic triangle. The film takes full advantage of the limited but attractive Cinecolor process, offering vivid picturizations of such traditional Mexican diversions as a fiesta, a "dancing duel," and a surprisingly bloodless cockfight. A big hit in Mexico, Alla en el Rancho Grande also cleaned up in Spanish-speaking American communities.
