Synopsis by Dan Pavlides

This documentary of writer Will James was sponsored by the National Film Board of Canada. James, whose real name was Ernest Dufault, was the popular author who wrote extensively about the American West. Letters he wrote to his French Canadian family implored them not to reveal his lineage or real name, fearing it would hurt his credibility as a writer of western tales. Although the subject matter is about James, the documentary does go into some of the problems the French Canadian minority faces in their own country. Many like James would just as soon be accepted as part of the cultural landscape of the United States than admitting to their roots.
