Bumptuous Charles Ray is again a "victim of circumstance" (to quote the immortal Curly Howard) in Alias Julius Caesar. While Ray is showering, his clothes are stolen. He tries to make his way home wrapped in a shower curtain (hence the film's title), and is arrested for his trouble. His cellmate is society crook Harry Gribbon, who befriends the hapless Ray. Later on, Gribbon tries to enlist Ray's aid in a jewel heist. Just when things look hopeless, Ray inadvertently becomes the hero of the day. Riding the crest of his popularity in 1922, Charles Ray felt emboldened enough to direct as well as star in Alias Julius Caesar; the film was a hit, more than can be said for Ray's next "auteur" exercise The Courtship of Miles Standish.
