Synopsis by Mark Deming
Anne Sofie Von Otter and Paul Groves star in this visionary presentation of Christoph Gluck's 1767 opera, here staged by renowned director Robert Wilson. In addition to incorporating a troupe of dancers, this version of Alceste features the English Baroque Soloists, a period orchestra performing the score with era-appropriate instruments; they're also accompanied by the Monteverdi Choir.
