Albeniz was one of Argentina's entries in the 2nd International Film Festival at Locarno, Switzerland. As indicated by the title, the film is the life story of famed Spanish composer Isaac Albeniz. In cradle-to-grave fashion, Albeniz is first seen as a child prodigy who is so talented that he's regarded by some observers as a fraud; the boy is also shown as the victim of a tyrannical father, who lives his own life vicariously through his son's accomplishments. Escaping his father's clutches as an adult, Albeniz moves to South America and the U.S. as an adult, experiencing a colorful array of tempestuous love affairs. Returning to Spain, he manages to land a scholarship at the Brussels Conservatory, but once again his mind is on women rather than music. Eventually he rises to international fame through a series of self-financed concerts, ultimately earning every conceivable award and accolade for his work. Pedro Lopez Lagar does a magnificent job in the role of Albeniz.
