Synopsis by Bhob Stewart
This Vietnamese road movie takes place in 1981, six years after the withdrawal of U.S. troops. Former Viet Cong Tan makes a long journey, carrying the ashes of his dead comrade Thai back to Thai's birthplace for burial. Boarding a crowded train departing from Ho Chi Minh City, he meets former soldier Mien who witnessed Thai's death. Accidentally separated from Thai's ashes, Tan maintains a pursuit by motorcycle, bus, and hitchhiking. Shot with American camera equipment leftover from the 1950s, this film was shown at the 1998 Rotterdam Film Festival and bears the alternate title The Long Journey.
