Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka
When Dib (Bassel Abiad), his little brother (Hicham Chkhreifati), and his mother (Yasmine Khlat) move to Damascus after the death of his father, both the Middle East and the family enter into a period of change and conflict (the Suez Canal is nationalized, war with Israel breaks out). Dib's brother dies a senseless, unwarranted death, his widowed mother is forced to marry against her will, and she suffers the abuse of her former father-in-law. With these difficulties all around him, Dib's coming of age is sudden and uncompromising.
