Synopsis by Bhob Stewart
This Turkish-Hungarian-French film, set amid the slums of old Istanbul, is an adaptation of a novel by Metin Kacan, who co-scripted. Classy call girl Tina (Mujde Ar) arrives on Istanbul's Cholera Street where she encounters barber's son Salih (Okan Bayulgen), and the two become lovers. Salih's hero, well-liked crime boss Sado (Burak Sergen) is murdered by a young gang leader, who opens a flashy gambling establishment. Meanwhile, the locals erect a bust of people's hero Sado. When Salih challenges the gang leader, violence erupts. Shown at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival.
