Synopsis by Jon Mills
This first episode of the popular '60s British TV series introduces it debonair hero (Gerald Harper) at play in his own era, and then follows how he comes to grips with his emergence into an extremely different society. Awaking in a 1966 hospital ward after having been excavated from a Central London building site, Adam escapes unsure of his whereabouts. The streets of London confuse him, and to passers by he appears mad. However, a young girl (Juliet Harmer) comes to his assistance, and takes him back to her flat to rest. Whilst he sleeps she goes to work in a nightclub, where late that night, her boss is murdered by mobsters. After a slow recovery from defrosting, Adam solves the crime, hence continuing his heroic deeds. (If the plot line sounds a little familiar, Mike Myers later contorted a similar theme into his phenomenally successful Austin Powersfilms. However, in the case of Adam Adamant the lead character is in essence an 'innocent abroad' at odds with the promiscuous 1960s).
