This comedy-drama, made at a low point in the career of J. Warren Kerrigan, was based on a magazine story by Johnston McCulley. Donald Blenhorn (Kerrigan) is the junior member of a New York law firm. He is assigned the task of traveling to Mexico to investigate a suitor of Dorothy Charlton (Lillian Walker), as stipulated by her father's will. Since Dorothy is expecting Blenhorn, he shows up disguised as the aristocratic Don Jose Alvarez so that he is better able to scrutinize the situation. As Alvarez, Blenhorn wins Dorothy's affection, much to the chagrin of her fiancé, Hugh Hankins (Howard Davies). He also wins the enmity of Juan Lopez (George Fields), who plots to kill him, but mistakenly murders a storekeeper instead. Lopez pins the blame on Blenhorn and gathers a mob to attack him. Blenhorn manages to convince the villagers that he is innocent. Meanwhile, Dorothy has become fed up with Hankins and breaks up with him. When Blenhorn reveals his true identity, she is more than happy to be with him instead.
