Synopsis by Augustine Chay
Japanese director Megumi Sasaki’s documentary is a direct response to Louie Psihoyos’s 2009 Oscar-winning The Cove, which galvanized Western outrage against 400-year-old dolphin-hunting practices in Taiji, a coastal Japanese town. She explores how the locals have responded to the global controversy about their cherished tradition and the unique place that whaling holds in the contemporary Japanese psyche.
