Synopsis by Mark Deming

One man's devotion has a profound effect on the woman he loves in this independent romantic drama. Joshua (Mick Shane) is a journalist who one day sees a beautiful woman walking down the street. For Joshua, it's very literally love at first sight, and he finds he can't get the woman out of his mind. A few days later, he sees her again while at the beach, and acting on his impulses, he follows her home. As Joshua keeps tabs on the woman's activities over the next few days, he develops a few questions about her lifestyle, and after he finally works up the courage to introduce himself to her, he discovers her name is Violet (Sylvie Hoffer), and she makes her living as a prostitute. Joshua refuses to be put off by his discovery of Violet's profession, and to her surprise, she discovers he has no particular desire to seduce her -- Joshua's lover for her is of the heart and not of the flesh, and as the two become closer, Violet finds herself moving away from the decadent life she's known. A Sensible Obsession was the first feature film for Haitian-born and Miami-based writer and director George Jiha.
