Synopsis by Janiss Garza
This drama was adapted from Nantas by Emile Zola. It involves a marriage of convenience -- wealthy Agnes Van Suyden (Edith Hallor) has been compromised by Allen Crawford (H. Bradley Barker) and become pregnant. To give the child a name, she offers to marry struggling lawyer James Duncan (Leslie Austen), a move that will give him status and money. He agrees and soon enjoys great success, eventually becoming District Attorney. But Agnes finds no joy in the marriage and spends her time volunteering for settlement work. Crawford's wife dies, and when he finds out his former lover is now married, he decides to make money from the situation. He arranges to meet Agnes, and lets Duncan know of the meeting, thereby forcing a divorce. But finally, Duncan's devotion and his love for her child (played by Lorna Volare) wins Agnes over and the misunderstandings between the couple are cleared up, much to Crawford's chagrin.
